WHAT
Blood donations across the United States have declined this summer. With only three percent of the U.S. population donating blood each year, that means our blood supply is at critically low levels. Hospitals are facing the risk of not having enough blood available for lifesaving patient care.
Blood donations across the United States have declined this summer. With only three percent of the U.S. population donating blood each year, that means our blood supply is at critically low levels. Hospitals are facing the risk of not having enough blood available for lifesaving patient care.
That's why first-time and current donors can save lives right here in the Bay Area. Every day, a blood donation supports successful surgeries, cancer treatments, recovery from serious injuries, and patient needs during other medical emergencies.
"Eligibility for blood donation has expanded in recent years," said Dr. Suchi Pandey, Chief Medical Officer of Stanford Blood Center. "If you've been unable to donate in the past, you may now be able to give. And demand for blood is constant, so we always need more people willing to become first-time donors."

Between August 1-31, 2026, anyone who donates at Stanford Blood Center’s (SBC) mobile drives or centers will get an official San Francisco Giants jersey. This exclusive, high-quality jersey has a button-down front, an embroidered official Giants logo on the chest and a Stanford Blood Center logo on the sleeve.

Appointments can be made online at stanfordbloodcenter.org, through the SBC app, by calling 888-723-7831 or sending a text to 999-777. Walk-ins are always welcome.
Donors should be in good health with no cold, flu, or COVID-19 symptoms. Be sure to eat well prior to donation, drink fluids, and bring a photo ID. Donors must be at least 17 years of age (or 16 with a parent or guardian’s consent). Eligibility information can be found at stanfordbloodcenter.org/eligibility or by calling 888-723-7831.
