Stanford Blood Center has issued an urgent plea to the community. They are facing a critical shortage of all blood types and platelets and are calling on donors to help replenish the supply.
According to Dr. Suchi Pandey, Chief Medical Officer at Stanford Blood Center, “Our blood supply has been critically impacted, and we are in immediate need of donations to support several emergency situations.”
In just the past 72 hours, two patients have required over 200 units of blood, platelets, and plasma, with one patient still in critical condition. The situation is exacerbated by recent hurricanes in the Southeast, which have disrupted blood supplies at their secondary hospitals, prompting increasing calls for support. Additionally, over the past weekend, a local East Bay hospital sought emergency support due to a major fire in the San Leandro area.
Please help ensure life-saving blood is available for patients in need. Appointments can be made online at stanfordbloodcenter.org, via the SBC app, or by calling 888-723-7831 or texting to 999-777. Walk-ins are welcome.
Stanford Blood Center currently is offering 1,000 bonus points to each donor that may be redeemed for a $10 gift card or another item in their Donor Loyalty Store. Please visit their website for more details.
